Sarah’s VELiM Conversation
Last Thursday, I gave the year’s first conversation at the Centre for Values, Ethics and the Law in Medicine. “One of the Most Uniform Races of the Entire World”: Raza chilena and the Myth of Chilean Racial Homogeneity explored how Chilean eugenicist and doctor Nicolas Palacios influenced racial ideology at the turn of the twentieth century. Specifically, it explored how contemporary beliefs about Chilean racial homogeneity may have roots in Palacios’s master work Raza chilena: Libro escrito por un chileno i para los chilenos published in 1904.
